Cost of campground rates going up...........

While making reservations at several different campgrounds I have noticed that the prices have gone way up this year. It appears that the average night of camping here in WI for water and electric is about $39 dollars. State parks are about $15-20 night for Mw/e with a $10 fee (not too bad). I was looking into making reservation at the Jellystone in Freemont, WI and they wanted $198 for three nights with all the extra fees! We did not book and will be staying at Indian Trails CG. Everything is going up...including the price of camping. But, in my opinion, camping is still a great value and we just love it. We are just finding more "creative" ways to stretch our camping budget. We started RV camp about 7 year ago and remember paying about 25-28 night for w/e. How much was it when y'all started to camp?

RE: "Green" camping ideas..............

We are having a birthday party for my DD this weekend. I usually stress out at what to buy and how much do I need. I am not going to buy plates, cups and silverware! I can use my own! I have tons of the stuff. I just take the extra time and wash is. I also save money! I also love to rummage! Thanks for the idea! I will look for "new" plates, silverware and cups.

Scavenger hunt ideas for 3 and 8 year old.............

I need some great ideas for scavenger hunts for camping and around the neighborhood (we always have a ton of kids over and I want them to do something fun). My DD is 3 and DS is 8. I used to love creating scavenger hunts when I was a camp counselor- one time I gave a group of boys a 5 gal bucket and told them to fill it with snakes. I thought I would be able to take a long nap but they were back in no time with a huge bucket of snakes!

"Green" camping ideas..............

I am a pretty "green" person at home. Have my own grocery bags, water filter system, recycle, husband bikes to work, organics, natural cleaning products. You get the picture. Well, I have been planning out camping trips close to home due to gas prices. I have also been thinking about the way we camp. We have a 12 foot pop-up. We eat with disposable plates, bowls and silverware. We buy lots of bottled water. We do recycle when we camp. I am going to do things different from now on. If I am so "green" at home then I have to be "green" camping! I mean- we are going out into nature- we need to take better care of it! So, i am going to buy plates, bowls, ect. and wash them. I am going to fill up a few gallons of water and take many of out Sigg bottles with us. I am looking for more creative ideas. What's on your mind.................

RE: Birthday "camping" gifts for 3 year old girl- any ideas??

I just went to Toys R Us and bought the pink camping set (Little People). I like it even better in person! Very cute! I am still trying to find the flashlight that you can crank. Any ideas where to get one?

Wisconsin campground for July 4th weekend..........

We live in Waukesha, WI. We are looking for a fun campground that is not too far away for July 4th weekend. I made a reservation for Jellystone Fremont (have not paid yet) and with all the fees it came to $198 for three nights for just water and electric. The also have a terrible cancelation policy. We could loose the entire amount if we cancel for any reason 14 prior. I think that stinks! So- back to the drawing board. We usually stay at state parks and campgrounds that have bike trails- very active bunch. We don't want to go too far. Looking for alot of stuff for the kids to do, firewooks near, ect. Thanks

RE: Sage advice for camping with toddler wanted

One thing that helped us is having a Kwik Cabana tent. I think we have a Kwik Cabana II. We had our daughter play in it with her toys while we set up our pop-up. It is so easy to set up and take down and in the off season you can use it in the house.

RE: Birthday "camping" gifts for 3 year old girl- any ideas??

Thanks for all the GREAT ideas! I just had her outside to play (it's 39 out- quite warm) and she was quite the explorer! Just tried to run into the street to get the dogs ball- heart attack!! (Thank God my 8 year old caught her at the end of the driveway). I think the outside toys would keep her busy and the idea of filling the backpack is a great idea. She needs a backpack for traveling.

Birthday "camping" gifts for 3 year old girl- any ideas??

My daughter will be 3 in a few weeks. All she talks about it our camper and begging us to go camping. She has a photo book that she carries around with camping photos of last season. Any gift ideas for a little girl who can't wait to go camping? I feel for the kid. We live in WI and the weather has been terrible since Dec 1. It is the middle of April and is cold and raining!

RE: Disney Fort Wilderness - Breakfast & Dining Plan Questions

Have you looked on www.disboards.com ?? There is a section devoted to FW Campground. Any question that you have can be answered there! It is the best and nicest message board on the net! I am on it daily as I am a Disney freak!

RE: What is you favorite Wisconsin SP?

Bearz- You will like Mirror Lake. It is a smaller and quieter park in the middle of the crazy dells. The hiking is easy and the lake is pretty. I was watching Discover Wisconsin and just found out that Harrington Beach SP is currently building a campground! It will be open next summer! It sounds like it will have about 60 sites (29 electric). As it is only a short trip from Milwaukee I am sure it will be just as difficult to get a site there as Kohler Andre!

RE: What is you favorite Wisconsin SP?

We love the Wisconsin SP's! We love Devil's Lake as it is only 1.5 hours away and beautiful. Peninsula SP has it all for our family- biking, swimming, views and a short bike ride into town. It is a bit farther for us at 3.5 hours. Gov. Dodge is huge! We love the lakes, biking and the waterfall. We will be camping at Gov. Dodge and Point Beach this summer. Never camped at Point Beach but we are looking forward to it. We are sticking closer to home this year as the gas prices are crazy. We are lucky that we have so many nice places to camp only a few hours away!

Dual hitch- reviews, best ones to buy.........

We just got a new TV (Honda Ridgeline. We pull a 2007 Jayco 1206 and bikes. I am trying to talk my husband into a dual hitch. I know they carry 4000lbs. I don't think that is a problem as it is a pretty good sized truck and a small pop-up. Any reviews? Where should we go to buy one?

RE: YOUR IDEAL CAMPGROUND

Here are the things that I think make a great campground: great playground that is maintained, clean bathroom, clean tiled showers with good lighting, clean pool with kiddy pool (can you tell I have young kids:), helpful staff that smile, owners that go the extra mile, seasonal flower beds, well taken care of picnic tables. Our favorite campground has a great pool, terrible playgound but with owners that love what they own and what they do makes all the difference in the world. Good luck with your journey.
